What is Aqua Magna?
Aqua Magna is a magnetic water conditioner. It is a non-chemical method of treatment for hard water.
What is Water Hardness ?
Water hardness is a measurement of minerals (Eg. Calcium, Manganese, Iron, etc) found in water. It is measured in PPM or mg/liter i.e. Parts per million or milligrams per liter both of these are same.
Where does scale come from ?
Water as it flows through the earth, dissolves the minerals such as calcium, magnesium etc. When water is heated, cooled, or stored the minerals that are in solution precipitate out and crystallize on the heated surface. This is called scaling. Scaling is highly insulating and its formation means increased fuel consumption and diminished equipment life.
How does Aqua Magna work ?
It works on the principles of "Magneto hydrodynamics". Faradays law & Lorentz principle. For details please refer literature.
Where do the mineral salts go after passing through Aqua Magna ? What effect does Aqua Magna have on calcium & magnesium salts present in the water ?
Aqua Magna does not add anything to the water nor removes anything from water. By way of its strong & focused magnetic field it changes the physical properties of water. For Eg. The Calcite Crystals (which are sugar cube shaped) turn into aragonite crystals (which are needle shaped), even though both are calcium only. Hence the hardness causing minerals remain in the water but in a different physical manner which does away with harmful effects of hard water.
Is it a water filter ?
Aqua Magna is not a water filter. It is a water conditioner used wherever hard water and scaling are problems. Where the water is known to contain large impurities, suspended matters etc., it is advisable to install proper filters before Aqua Magna.
To what extent chemical properties of water are changed by Aqua Magna? Can chemical tests prove efficacy of Aqua Magna?
Due to magnetic treatment chemical properties of water are changed to the extent of 10 to 15%. Chemical tests therefore do not prove the efficacy of Aqua Magna. For tests please refer enclosures.
Where it is to be fitted ?
Aqua Magna is to be fitted as near as possible the point of use. For domestic installation, it is advisable to fit it at the outlet of the overhead tank. For industrial applications it is advised to fit it near to the point where the scaling is to be treated.
How is Aqua Magna to be installed ?
Aqua Magna is to be installed vertically in line. The pipeline equal to the length of Aqua Magna supplied, should be cut & Aqua Magna fitted in its place in the direction shown on the label.
Aqua Magna is supplied either with female threaded couplings or flanges on both ends as is the requirements of the customer. No extra charge is levied for supply of flanges in place of couplings.
Is it a water softener ?
Aqua Magna is not a water softener in the conventional sense of the term. In water softeners calcium A magnesium ions are exchanged with sodium ions & thereby water becomes soft. Here water hardness is brought down sometimes as low as 5 ppm.
In Aqua Magna water ppm is not changed much but physical properties of water are changed for scale prevention & removal of existing scale build up.
Can Aqua Magna replace water softener ?
No. It is seen that one unit of Aqua Magna is effective where water hardness is from 0 to 250 ppm. Therefore where hardness is more than 250 ppm water softener may be used or if already under use they should not be removed. However, prolonged use of Aqua Magna reduces the cost of chemicals used for softening.
Further, Aqua Magna is useful because use of a softener does not totally remove scaling. Even with 51010 ppm water hardness scaling does occur & Aqua Magna helps in removing these scales. Also water softeners do not touch the scales already formed whereas Aqua Magna gradually removes these too.
How does Aqua Magna differ from water desalination plants /electro dialysis process ?
Please refer separate chart 2
Is there any flow rates restrictions for Aqua Magna ?
No.
Is there any capacity restrictions i.e., only so much water of quantity of water is processed per hour/per day etc ?
No.
How do I know Aqua Magna is working ?
For industrial applications, the physical viewing of scale formation together with observation of blow down waste will answer the working of Aqua Magna.
What is Aqua Magna's warranty ?
Aqua Magna carries two year warranty against manufacturing defects.
What is the life of Aqua Magna ?
Aqua Magna contains permanent magnets. Unless it is mishandled, tampered with or broken, Aqua Magna gives life long service. However, it is advised to get its magnetic power checked with the manufacturer once in 10 years.
Are there any water temperature restrictions ?
Aqua Magna ceases to the effective where the water temperature exceeds 105°C.
Why should we use Aqua Magna ?
Because
 |
Energy saving. |
 |
It is maintenance free. |
 |
Environmentally Safe. |
 |
Pollution Free. |
Are the results of Aqua Magna universal i.e., are they same for all water qualities & applications ?
The results of Aqua Magna are not universal. The results vary with varying water constituents, geo-magnetic ground water fluctuations, temperature; consumption and applications.
How long for results ?
Some installation show results in just a few days. While others may take months to reach the desired level of effectiveness. This is due to many variables in the water & applications linked to treatment. further, time also is required to descale the existing pipelines & supply systems in use prior to installation of Aqua Maqna.
How are Aqua Magna units sized ?
Aqua Magna units are sized depending on the diameter of the feed line for which treatment is desired. Aqua Magna is available in sizes 1/2 inch to 24 inch pipe dia sizes. For sizes above 6 inch quotations will be sent on request. Are there any variations in models of magnetic conditioners 7 Magnetic water conditioner usually come in two models.
 |
Clamp on models (the units are clamped on pipes externally). |
 |
In-line system. Aqua Magna is an In-Line system. |
What are the so called limitations of magnetic water conditioning units? Does Aqua Magna over come them ?
The so called limitations are :
a) External Clamp on systems induce only limited force. In some cases the pipe becomes magnetised at the point of treatment with a resulting reduction in mineral suspension capability.
b) Internal system magnets impede the flow & may require frequent cleaning of trapped magnetic material.
Aqua Magna over comes these limitations firstly because it is not a clamp on system. It is an In-line system. It contains a stainless steel core which can never become magnetised.
Secondly, Aqua Magna does not contain any internal flow impeding magnets. The magnets are housed in a proper housing insulated from water. For further safety a small wire mesh is provided at the entrance part of Aqua Magna to prevent any hard & magnetic material entering it.
What are the different methods used for water conditioning ?
Water conditioning systems are mainly classified into
(1) Chemical : Using various chemicals for scale inhibition, descaling, softening etc.
(2) Non Chemical : Non chemical water treatment is done by
 |
Permanent magnetic water conditioning. |
 |
Electro magnetic water conditioning. |
 |
Catalytic water conditioning |
 |
Electronic water conditioning |
 |
Electrostatic water conditioning. |
How far down stream does it work ?
Effectiveness of the unit is most in close proximity to the unit. Hence it is recommended that Aqua Magna be used as near as the point of use. However, it is observed that the magnetic effect will progress down stream from unit as far as 500 feet as the system becomes clear of the scales.
How long does the magnetic effect on water last ?
About 24 hrs after it passes through Aqua Magna.
What does the unit do to pipes & joints after scale is removed ?
Aqua Magna is effective on the scale deposits that are soluble in water. It is to be noted that after installation of Aqua Magna, leakages may appear in pipelines wherever the scale formation has sealed these leakages. However, Aqua Magna
has no adverse effects on materials such as gaskets, piping etc.
What is to be done with the scale which has been removed ?
On once through systems the scale removed will continuously be flushed to drain. In
re-circulating systems, blow down from a low quiet zone is effective or the scale might settle in a harmless location to be physically removed at an appropriate opportunity. After the system is cleaned further scale will not form & hence further removal is unnecessary.
Is there a water pressure drop after the installation of Aqua Magna ?
The pressure drop is nil or almost negligible.
If there are existing scales in the systems, how much time does it take to remove this old scale after installation of Aqua Magna ?
Aqua Magna starts performing immediately on installation. However, removal of old scale takes time depending on the conditions & age of the scale. If the scale is thicker, it may take even more than 6 months.
